A few tiny pocket sized projectors have been seen around the trade shows over this last year. The latest one comes from 3M who are actually about to officially launch the product. The pocket projector is named the MPro110 mini Projector.

This mini projector will cost $359 when it is launched. It will require a fairly dark room for best quality as the power of this device isn’t the greatest which is to be expected of a projector that fits in to your pocket. Sound is also not available from the device, so external speakers will be required for watching movies.

The technology that runs this pocket projector is an LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) screen with the light being provided by LED. It is due to be launched later this month and 3M are expecting to see mobile phones with this technology built in by next year.

The race for the thinnest LCD TV seems incessant. Sony has now bagged the prize for the world’s slimmest LCD HDTV, which measures just 9.9mm across its torso. The KDL-40ZX1 has a 40-inch display and can give anorexic models a run for their money, weighing just 26 pounds. Although the product incorporates just 1 HDMI port, an external HD wireless base station can push the roof up to 3 HDMI, 2 component, s-video, VGA, USB, mouse and LAN ports.

Crystal ball gazers from the industry are predicting that the station uses WHDM, with a range of 20 meters. With assistance from the wireless box, the KDL-40ZX1 achieves 1080p in display and also includes 120hz MotionFlow for better images. We would only be following the customary revelations by stating other features like 3,000:1 contrast ratio, 178 degree viewing angle and four color options. The TV is anyway worth an investment just for its elitist characteristics.

A month after Amimom established a consortium to promote its WHDI (wireless) codec that makes gadgets natively interoperable, Mitsubishi announced its first HDTV that takes full advantage of the tech: The Mitsubishi ‘Living Fit’ TV.

So what seems interesting about it? Start with the quirky fact that the system comes in two parts. One is a very thin LCD screen (expected to be 1.5 in. or so), and the other is a separate box that includes a Blu-ray optical drive and sends out the wireless signals to the TV.

This means that if all your other TVs are WHDI-enabled and are within 100 feet of the receiver box, uncompressed HD video will stream automatically, bypassing physical barriers like walls and furniture.

The second main feature is that the wireless gets rid of the mess of cables completely — plug in your TiVo or another media player to the box, put them in the closet and let the feed take care itself.

While the 1920 x 1080p (full HD resolution) TV is expected to come out in Japan at first, expect to see it in the U.S. by next year.

Although it’s a minor thing in the grand scheme of life, the remote losing power can be rather annoying. And despite our pressing the buttons harder, the channels eventually stop changing and we go looking for some fresh batteries. Now there’s a battery-free remote control that eliminates the need to ever get off our butts ever again.

Online store Gizoo sells a universal remote control that uses wind-up power to charge itself. 30 twists is enough to power the device for a week. For the serious couch-potato that could qualify as a weekly work-out.

The price is £19.95 ($38 US).

Mint Wireless, based in Australia, have created a very nice projector named Mint V10. This tiny pocket sized projector is designed to work with your mobile phone, PDA or UMPC and allows you to have access to a larger pocket sized screen.

The Mint V10 measures 125 x 55 x 23 mm and projects the picture by using an LED lamp which has a life of 20000 hours. The screen it is capable of projecting is 50 inches in size with a throw distance of just 1.8m. I find that to be fantastic!

The product will retail at $649 (AUD I believe) which is just short of $600 USD.

Lightspeed Design Inc has teamed up with InFocus to create the world’s premier portable and high-definition 3D projectors called the DepthQ HD 3D Projectors, which can be used to generate superb 3D images of games and enjoy it all. However, the projectors will use big plastic glasses and use a single lens and offers picture resolution of 1024×768 or 1280×720, or 720p HD. Though it is portable, it may still be a little cumbersome to move around and may cost $6000. The low cost maybe an indication to the direction in which the projector manufacturing is heading. This portable projector could reduce a lot of burden and save space and time as well.
