Leica, so swish that it could saunter into digital photography years after everyone else and still get all the gush, is to upgrade its D-Lux series with a new sub-$1,000 model. The D-Lux 4 adds a hotshoe, comes with a new lens, and upgrades the lens and image sensor.

The D-Lux 3 had a 28-112mm ƒ2.8 – 4.9 lens. The new camera has a wider and faster 24-60mm ƒ2-2.8 lens. Inside, the pixel count is actually slightly lower, at 10.1 MP (vs. 10.4) and the sensor size is almost identical, changing from 1/1.65″ to 1/1.63″. These last might just be counting differences between actual and effective pixels.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T500 digital camera that does more than capture lovely looking still images – it is also able to record video in both wide and full-screen mode at 720p at 30 frames per second. In addition, this 10 megapixel shooter allows one to zoom in while recording, and is equally at home for high sensitivity shooting for natural or low light conditions.

The Sony DSC-T500 will rely on a Memory Stick media card to store all your photos and videos recorded, where a 16GB capacity Memory Stick is able to hold hours of digital memories. I don’t really like the cap Sony imposed on the DSC-T500 though, allowing each video clip to be up to 10 minutes’ in length only, which means you’ve got to learn how to space out your video recordings accordingly. Well, at least that’s what the press release led me to believe. One good point of the DSC-T500 is its ability to capture still images despite being in video recording mode, ensuring you won’t miss out on even a single moment while fiddling with mode switching.

The Sony DSC-T500 will ship sometime later next month for approximately $400.

This week, Canon came up with a new solution for advanced amateur photographers, amid increasing interest in digital SLR cameras: the 15.1-megapixel EOS 50D Digital SLR Camera and the new DIGIC 4 image processor.

The EOS 50D digital camera offers high quality and image control, and includes an expanded ISO range, as well as improved noise reduction, and in-camera photo editing features. The Creative Auto Mode (CA) offers users more flexibility to easily adjust images without being some kind of experts.

The EOS 50D camera offers improved image quality, by using an improved CMOS APS-C size image sensor. The DIGIC 4 image processor adds up to the 6.3 frame-per-second (fps) continuous shooting capability, which supports bursts of up to 90 Large/Fine JPEGs or 16 RAW images on a UDMA CF card.

The Canon EOS 50D camera also offers a high-performance viewfinder with 0.95 magnification and high-performance Autofocus (AF), resulting in a better focus of the targets.

The EOS 50D camera is compatible with the Canon EF and EF-S lenses. The camera is scheduled to launch this October, and will be sold as a body-only configuration for $1,399.00. The kit version with EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens will cost an estimated $1,599.00.

Canon has released two new all-in-one printers, and most of us would want to know more when Canon has something new. The PIXMA MP980 and the PIXMA MP620 Photo AIO printers offer digital darkroom and office productivity in just one inkjet machine. Both the printers are sleek and well designed and come with features such as Wi-Fi connectivity, fast print speeds, Canon’s Auto Photo Fix, Auto Scan mode, and other such facilities. Both models use Canon’s FINE Technology and ChromaLife100+ System and also have reduced sizes. The PIXMA MP980 runs around $299.99 whereas the smaller PIXMA MP620 costs $149.99.

Eagle-eyed Gadget Lab readers, we need your help. These pictures are supposedly leaked shots of Nikon’s expected new DSLR, the D90, which may be officially announced tomorrow. The timing is certainly right: camera manufacturers generally announce new models just before the big German camera trade-show, Photokina, in an effort not to get swamped by the news overload from the show.

The specs, according to Nikon Rumors: The D90 will have a 12.3 megapixel sensor, a 3″, live view LCD with face detection, a maximum ISO of 6400 and a “powerful speaker” for video playback.

Of course, we’ve been here before. Way back in June we heard that the D90 was imminent, and that came from the same source — Nikon Rumors. This time, though, the images are a little better. The first of the pictures below show the rather ridiculously bad Photoshop effort from that June story, followed by two more up-to-date “leaked” pictures. So snap to it, Gadget Labbers. Are these real or fake?

Kodak calls it the Zi6 HD Pocket Video Camera. It comes in either black or a rather bold looking, yet girlish, pink, records in 16:9 720p wide screen at up to 60fps, comes with AA rechargeable batteries and recharger, and can be expanded using SD or SDHC memory cards up to 32 GB (internal memory up to 128MB)! It also has the standard jack knife USB plug, direct to YouTube support, 2/4” LCD, AV & HD video component cables and Arcsoft Media Impression software for editing.

All for $179.00. That’s rather impressive considering that the Flip Ultra with 2GB of memory goes for the same price, but is only standard – 640 x 480 video, just slightly better than VHS. The ZiX is full 720pHD. And also what’s interesting is that while several of the accessories on the upcoming Kodak are included at no charge, they would cost about $15 each for the Flip.

Nikon’s Coolpix P6000 is aimed at DSLR users wanting something pocketable that won’t incur the compromises of a standard digicam. It has a 13.5 megapixel sensor, 4x zoom lens, manual exposure and RAW support. DSLR-style features like shutter- or aperture-priority modes, and a high-end chip to kill lag and processing overhead, polish it off. It replaces the P5100.
Customization features inspired by Nikon digital SLR cameras allow photographers to take control where desired. The Mode Dial provides quick access to advanced Programmed Auto [P], Shutter-priority Auto [S], Aperture-priority Auto [A], and Manual [M] exposure modes, the choice of two user-defined settings, (U1/U2), as well as automated scene modes that offer learning and advanced photographers expressive freedom combined with ultimate convenience. In addition, the P6000 features the Command dial and customizable Function button that allow quick switching of settings. There’s also a shooting menu for quick access to regularly used selections and an efficient new tabbed menu interface.

I’m sure you’ve all been trough the process when you need to scan like 20 old photos and bring them into the “digital era”. Yeah its sucks to stay in front of the scanner and keep changing photos, click`in here and there to save the photo’s. Now there is a new way of scanning photos, its called the Photo Scanner. This clever new box of tricks uses a 5 megapixel CMOS sensor to scan those old photos in our attic and turn them into glorious digital images which can be stored, shared and enjoyed the modern binary way. The device offers up to 1800 dpi resolution and 10 bits per color channel. Now scanning photos is child play.
